Nitrogen is deposited by the snow and absorbed into the soil and the residing food web as a result of nitrogen fixation, a microbial activity which can take place even at low temperatures. Snow thus serves as a natural fertilizer, even more efficient than rain as thaw will gradually release nitrogen into the soil.
WHAT WE DO
Sustainable horticulture and wildlife protection are intrinsically tied together. Permaculture is a 360 degree perspective on living in harmony with nature, which involves specific measures to protect and nourish indigenous wildlife in any climate, region and biosphere.
A part of the certification for Advanced Permaculture Design is legal instructions, ecologic guidelines and basic safety regulations with regards to being a caretaker of the wild.
Conserving Indigenous Species
Local wildlife may have dysproportional impact on the ecosystem surrounding your earthship, also animals that are not currenctly endangered. An organism as small as fungi plays a crucial role in transportation of nutrients to trees. Tampering with fungi may reduce your crop from farm trees key to your staple food economy.
Protecting Watersheds and Groundwater Reservoirs
Protecting waterways and groundwater reservoirs from pollution through safe conduct during construction and dissemination of fertilization is a key off-grid competency covered by the Advanced Permaculture Design certificiate.
Defending Conservation Laws
Among the natural duties of any Caretaker is working diligently to reintroduce facts and rule of law in any contested area regarding wildlife protection, such as deforestation.
Combating Climate Change
Climate change reversal has to begin from an informed position. Medicine Ways is not against the establishment, but criticial of particular methods that can be succesfully transferred to sustainable forms of energy extraction with existing technologies.
Sustainable Economy
With low practical measures like careers in regenerative areas to partial or complete transfer of household food and energy budgets to renewable and sustainable methods, Medicine Ways seeks to reduce the cost of living for citizens as well as their C02 footprint on the environment.
